The thing about scales is they are great, except there are a lot of guys like me who are not big enough to justify them.
Try running an auger wagon with a scale, you are a one man show, the spot the combine dumps is 2 miles from the bin. The next spot the combine dumps in may be a 3/4 of a mile from there.
I take 3 wagons, park them around the field and go back for the combine. Way more efficient.
Normally my monitor is pretty consistent. This year there was so much mud and dirt went through the monitor varied from dead on to off 50% of more.
How many guys are measuring bins? I bet 50% or more.
Normal corn for me runs 60-65 with some 66 or 67.
This year 54 to 55. That means if you measure a bin, it can have up to 18 or 19 percent less corn than normal.
ON the beans a drop from 60 to 54 is 10%. I normally run a little over 60 and this year I see a lot of 54. So my bin has 10% less pounds in it, at the same volume.
I have not fed stock for a long time, but I recall it takes more pounds of 54 pound corn than 60 pound corn.
