live in Spfd, farm located NW Macoupin county | This a "here " situation but 135 hp here would be pulling a 22-24 foot S-tine, but that is on the 2nd pass. Most of my ground takes 2 passes in the spring to make a good seed bed. S-tine on the first pass here is usually not a good plan
I currently plant behind a 28' Glencoe with a 3bar spring-tooth harrow behind a JD4640. I have pulled it with the 4440 but the 4640 handles it much better and I put it in the ground to make sure no weeds are escaping.
John Deere 940/940/980, Glencoe, Kongslide all could be possibilities.
My biggest advice would be to get one with the taller shanks. Refer to Sloans Express or Shoup to help you understand the difference in the shanks. The taller shanks allow for better flow of trash/crop residue.
A big plus that I like is that the S-tine has no moving parts/bushings to wear out. You make break shank one in a while but replacements are relatively cheap. |
