I don't understand what you think the answer is if fence row to fence row "is bad"? What producer in their right mind is going to make a land payment or rent payment on a tillable acre and not produce something on it? Or is your point that certain geographic regions shouldn't be growing corn and beans at all? If that's your theory I'm all with you there. Drove to Colorado from MN last year and there were a ton of times I looked at my wife and said how/why is corn grown here...?
Because they can probably make money doing it. Why do some people seem to think they only are allowed to grow row crops? We have been row crops here for over 50 years, we also have cattle. I don't begrudge anyone to the west of me that is taking advantage of market opportunities. The people that did that invested heavily to do so as well. The cattle market has been screaming for more cattle for a while now, why don't some of you who begrudge others invest into/and take advantage of that market? |
