X2 vent might be the simple issue. Years back the shop furnace was acting up. We tried putting a vented cap on the end to keep birds out. Any cap we tried seamed to restrict it too much and wouldn't run. leaving it open worked till the birds got at it again. I think we finally put a big bulge of chicken wire on the end and that worked.
