East of Broken Bow | Used to have one of those. They are meant to HAUL a slide-in camper, the kind that extends past the tailgate and up over the cab. They aren't that great for PULLING a camper, unless you want to pull a camper in something that rides like an empty single axle semi.
Load it down, and it's great, doesn't lean, and actually rides pretty good. Drive it around empty and you'd swear the axles were just bolted right to the frame. Or, as my dad used to say, technically it DOES have springs, it just doesn't use them until you get about a ton of weight in the bed.
Edit to add: My first choice would be something with a 12 valve Cummins in it. The (auto) transmission is a weak point, but they can be fixed pretty cheap, and also beefed up pretty cheap.
