North Central US | Ignoring all the ways it can be done today, yes there are better and newer ways, yes, but that isn't the question.
In old films and magazines along with some books and manuals, for adjusting toe in/out they talk about scribing a line on the tire. The everything I've seen shows a nice white line being made on the tire by the tool.
All I can find today, new or old, are tire scribes with a small needle that leaves a scratch on the tire, usually made for racing tires(slicks/flat and no tread).
Did everyone just illustrate the tire scribe making a mark the same way or haven't I found the scribe or whatever it is called that paints the mark on the tire as shown?
