gpsdude - 1/11/2026 23:05  As I said depending on area. I am 100 miles north of you and i work with some farmers growing corn 300 miles further north. Farther north we need more seeds to get yield. Trust me the areas that are at 5 bu/1000 are not 200 bu/ac areas more like sub 100 bu/ac. I seed for 6-7 and sometimes get 10+ if conditions are right. Fixed vs high flex ear varieties also make a difference.

Maturity and hybrid definitely matter.      I'm sure its harder (or impossible) to find good flex hybrids in the real short season stuff but I won't plant a fixed ear hybrid on land that varies a lot.     Too much population hurts yields in a dry year and fixed ear hybrids limit yield in the real good years.

A good flex ear hybrid can produce 12+ bu/1000 when the stars align.    On the sub 100 bpa ground we go all the way down to 16k/acre, I'd go lower but weed control gets to be an issue.
