It’s not likely to be the ethanol price so much by itself, but rather the extra RIN value the 50% greater ethanol blend is worth. Corn ethanol based RINs have been running 60-80 cents. If the fuel company is short RINs, they may find this as the easiest way to meet their blending requirements.
