Subject: Comparing steel posts vs. wood for pole barn

Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251
I am building a pole barn right now and we used laminated treated wood columns for the posts.

I was in a hurry to build this building before calving in February, but I am planning to build two more similar buildings in the future and I will have more time to gather up supplies for them.

What O.D. size and thickness of square tubing or round pipe is interchangeable for a typical 6x6 laminated wood post? I come across a lot of reject pipe and tubing in my travels and would like to buy some of it for future building use.
