On a two lane rural highway at less than 1/4 mile from an intersection, they will pass me, and then make a left or right turn at the intersection.
When traveling long distances, like say 600 miles (966km) @ 60mph (96km/h), maintaining the posted speed makes a big difference time-wise when compared to driving 10mph (16km/h) less. But for shorter highway distances, like say 5 miles (8km), you might save around one minute
When about three miles from town, sometimes, they will pass me and be waiting at the traffic light when I arrive behind them.
When driving farm semi-trucks when I need to get back to the field asap, I'll "massage" the accelerator pedal, but otherwise, take my time.
