NE Kansas | I produce many tons of poultry feeds per year. For a 16% layer primary ingredients are corn, wheat midds, bean meal, meat & bone meal, alfalfa meal, calcium, dicalcium phosphate, and a whole slew of vitamins.
Backyard layers are pretty easy, feed is seldom the issue to production as there are so many different environmental and breed variables. Mix a little corn, some peas or roasted soybeans and a handful of whole flax or something and they'll do great. The attached image is a whole grain ration I put together for customers that wanted to mix their own feed with the ingredients I have available to sell them.
A commercial production facility is a completely different animal. Small adjustments in ingredients, grind, etc can make millions of dollars difference over the course of a year.
