N FLA | Friend/someone I know asked to rent a bull. He has about 60 cows and AI breeds them all. He sells show calves primarily. He needs a cleanup bull for 60 days. I have a registered simangus bull from Gibbs Farm he can use. I told him he's been doing this a lot longer than me just pay me what's market rate. He said we need a broken penis clause. Didn't seem to know any market rate.
I'm less worried about the bull getting hurt at his farm with no bulls than my farm with 5 bulls. But I'll agree we need something.
Seems like if he expects to breed ,25 to 30 cows that $50 each is fair, $1250 to $1500 Is that out of line? What about broke penis or lameness? $750 for injury? I'm sure my replacement will be about $6k. Cull value isn't as high locally as other places this area is kind of a depressed market. So an injury would be costly, but that's a risk I'd take on my farm also.
