Subject: RE: TeeJett ball valve 344BE-24-COC

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Since I have retired from being a Tech, I don't remember the different part numbers. If memory serves me correct Deere often used the "polarity reversing" style. This style required +/- on a pair of wires to open and -/+ on that same pair to close. You are correct that this polarity reversing was done by Deere in the sprayer portion. The switches you use run the valves and also back feed the Raven so it "knows" which booms are supposedly ON.

If you happen to have the so called polarity reversing style but need the other style you could return it and trade it back toward the style you have on the tractor.

Another option would be to run it with a DPDT switch. These switches are really two Double throw switches in the same enclosure. They have three terminals on the left and three terminals on the right. Put 12V on one of the center terminals and Ground on the other center terminal. Run a wire from the upper left to the lower right and then to the valve. Run another wire from the upper right to the lower left and then to the valve. With the switch handle UP, the valve will get + on one wire and - on the other. With the switch handle DOWN, the valve will get - on the first wire and + on the other. One way the valve will open, the other way the valve will close.

Should you wish to use this valve with a controller such as a Raven 440, you could do the same thing with a 12V DPDT relay. The relay terminals are like the switch above but have another pair to feed a coil which causes the internal points to move.

The Raven boom wire and ground would go to the coil on the relay. The other wires would be attached as described above. Then when the Raven section wire is ON, the relay becomes active and sends the correct polarity to open the valve. when the Raven section wire is OFF, the relay relaxes and becomes inactive which sends the opposite polarity to the valve.
