Hennepin, IL | Yeah Ive found recs can be as simple or as complicated as a guy wants to make them. To be perfectly honest, I tried a couple different methods a few years back. What Ive landed on is finding a year or couple years of yield data where zones really show themselves and they correlate well with what I know about the field. Then take what I'll call the 20th percentile, not the best areas, but good and plug my normal flat rate into there, then adjust up or down for the other zones by feel. A few of those recs Ive used for 3 years or so now. Every winter I'll look them over quick and cant really find anything worth changing unless a certain variety needs higher or lower pops. About all Ive done consistently to tweak is Ive been slowly dropping the low end lower. If a guy wants to dip his toe in it, make 2 zones 2 different pops and go from there. Its not rocket science even if it sounds like it sometimes. | |
