Subject: RE: vehicle door key pads

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I have a 2019 Ford Edge which has the external keypad. Mine has all the features mentioned above. I can use an App on my phone to unlock the driver door if the FOB is inside. I can use the keypad to unlock or lock the door. If I have the FOB, I can use it to lock/unlock the door and back hatch with the FOB. I can purposely lock the door by using the bottom two keys on the keypad.

I thought it had failed me once and my car seemed to be locked in the parking lot in front of a Pizza Joint. The FOB was inside the car and I had used the keypd tolock the doors. The keypad didn't respond to my code, the phone app didn't seem to work. I called the dealer to see if they could send out a code to unlock it. They said they were not able to do that since they would not be certain I was the true owner over the phone.

I was thinking I would need to have someone bring my spare FOB from Home. As I walked back to the Pizza Joint, I noticed another Edge that had a Bear decal on the rear like mine does. It was then that I realized that I had been trying to open the door of an extremely similar and same colored Ford Edge parked close to mine. I walked over to the other Edge which was mine, the driver door was unlocked since the phone App had done what it was supposed to. I got in and drove off. Fortunately the true owners of the other Edge had not seen me attempting to get into their car.

My 2019 Chevrolet Silverado has a FOB system also but does not have a keypad. I don't believe one is available. This means I need to take the FOB with me to prevent someone from driving off with it whether the doors are locked or not. The Silverado will not allow me to lock the FOB inside as the door locks just cycle back to unlock when the FOB is inside.

I just learned the other day that if I wish to check my tire pressures or fuel level without starting the engine, I can just push on the Start button without holding the brake. I get a message to that effect on the dash but I am able to read the fuel level, tire pressure and other things. When I wish to actually start the engine, I put my foot on the brake and use the start button as usual.
