I believe you are trying to use a new Master switch which should be possible. I will investigate my notes and reply back. From a quick look, it seems that you are on the right track.
To use a new Remote Master involves two steps: 1) installing the proper switch correctly and 2) informing the system to watch the new switch instead of the original.
