West Central Indiana
Similar situation for me last year. Timber clay soils.
I had planned to put it corn but field conditions and timing just didn’t work out. Ended up applying fertilizer for bean crop. No tillage, planted green. Had to adjust depth a little and plant slower than normal because it was a little rough. Burn down shortly after, using very healthy rates and kept booms low and slow.
Beans came up nicer than I expected. Couple small thin spots due to vole feeding. Stayed pretty clean though. Second herbicide pass cleaned up grasses that came back.
Overall beans went mid 60s
I don’t know how your field lays, but if you’re planning on a disk or vt pass. I would spray it as soon as it’s fit. Let the hay crop brown out well before tillage. Only experiment I’ve had with chisel plow in spring was a bust. And a trip to the chiropractor.
