Sounds like a good plan. If a vehicle doesn't fit your use case, don't buy it. I once owned a long bed, extended cab diesel pickup. It was tiring to drive for long distances on the hiway, was miserable to park in city parking lots, and not ideal for stretches of roads with numerous stop lights. I sold it, but that doesn't mean that everyone should do the same because there are cases where a vehicle like that is required. 
Long story, short. I'm not saying you should buy an EV. But before you make statements about how bad they are, maybe try driving one to see for yourself instead of relying on rumors.
