Grabill, Indiana | Looking for ideas to improve a White corn planter setup for 2026.
Current configuration:
Planter: White 6182 frame
Row units: 8000 series
Downforce: Manual airbag down pressure (not active). We set pressure based on field conditions and leave it.
Row shutoffs: Paired row clutches (controls every 2 rows)
Row cleaners: Yetter floating with shark tooth wheels + treader wheels
Openers: GBGI Highwear disc openers
Row unit hardware:
PPS bushing kit installed to tighten parallel arms
Seed trench components:
Bullseye seed tubes
RK seed tube protectors / trench makers
Keeton seed firmers
Closing wheels: Copperhead or Yetter twisted poly
Fertilizer system:
John Blue piston pump
Wilger flow indicators
Totally Tubular dribble tubes (20–25 gal starter)
Seed meter control: Easy Air system controls air pressure to the row units for seed drop. We adjust from the cab and use the Ag Leader Integra to dial in singulation.
Monitoring: Ag Leader Integra for population and seed tube performance
Seed transmissions and fertilizer pump are ground driven.
I posted not long ago about the challenges with our starter pump — because of that, we may switch to a hydraulic pump instead of the John Blue.
We are also considering the Wilger individual row meter electronic flow unit.
We would like some sort of air pressure monitor or alarm in the cab.
Looking for input on what upgrades make the biggest difference — examples: active downforce, electric meters, hydraulic pump & rate control for fertilizer, Precision upgrades, or other tweaks that actually pay.
What have you done that moved the needle on seed placement, emergence, or overall planter consistency? | |
