My answer is to pass on to the grandkids whatever was passed down to you, and spend the increase you have accumulated on a nice house and living comfortably. - you have earned it.  

put the nice house in a living trust so whichever spouse dies first leaves half of the house held in trust for the surviving spouse.  name the kids the beneficiary of the nice house for when the surviving spouse passes.
