I’ll agree with you on this. I haven’t had no till work very well here into an old hay field. Best thing I’ve found to do is mow it off with the batwing mower. As close do the ground as possible. Give it a week or two. Then multiple passes with an offset disc. With some time in between. Then multiple passes with a finish disc or field cultivator. Then plant it in corn. There will still be some clods, but the next year it will look a lot better. He doesn’t have this option, but better yet I like to do all the tillage in September here. Then plant it the following spring to have winter help with breaking up some clods too.
