With respect, the messages in your second and third paragraphs seem to contradict one another.
I personally adhere to the message in the third paragraph and think that too many of us put more emphasis on land and belongings over our families. The entire premise of the TV show Yellowstone was just that and I found it sickening. Entertaining? Yes. But sickening nonetheless.
Yes they do contradict. I was trying to convey that I see both sides.
On one side, there is a certain pride in keeping the land in the family for multiple generations but that must be tempered with appreciation for the work that the previous generations have done.
On the other side, as parents we should be proud of our children's success even when it does not involve agriculture. Not everyone is suited for this way of life nor does everyone enjoy this way of life. I have a brother and sister that do not farm. It was not their calling. Both are successful in family and life and my parents would be proud that they raised such fine individuals. |
