redoak - 1/8/2026 06:57 On meats somewhat , but mostly I have seen the cheaper meat prices from cheaper grains is at the farm level. We have fed $8 corn & $500 soy meal to cheap hogs ,it hurt....But I think (off topic) if grains & oilseeds were really cheap the independent hog guys like us would get eliminated...Not the way it should be but home grown feeds/sell soys for meal keeps hog business going. Now 40 yrs. ago the hog business supported the cropping side

$8 corn and $500 soy meal led to high priced hogs a short while later.      Hog prices are always lagging behind feed costs.

Right now, the hog business is supporting the cropping side.   Anyone not making money with hogs right now, should probably exit the business.
