I don't see myself ever in that situation
But if I was, I would likely sell farms on a discount (maybe even steep discount) to some young farmers that I thought would make a go of it and be able to hold onto it.
Everyone could look at that idea differently, but in my thoughts I would in some way at least feel like all the sacrifice and heartache getting there moves forward, even if it isn't with shared blood.
4 years ago had a neighbor drop by. One kid that had no interest in the farm. BTO had been buddying up to the kid to be able to buy it when that day comes.
Neighbor sold me the farm for a very nice price. We set up a rental agreement on his house to terminate when he dies or moves to a nursing home.
He rides with me when I plant and some combining. If his body would let him he'd still be out there farming it himself but he gets to die knowing he chose who got the farm and enjoys talking with the new owner about the yields and some upgrades we've done to it.
He told me the son will still get a very nice inheritance just not what it coulda been
Funny I really appreciated him selling me the farm but It took till this thread to really figure out why he did
