Marcellus, Mi | I was able to take out two rows of crates butt to butt and just put in gating. I left the original feed drops in place and the majority hits the original through when we drop feed.
The only down side is the feed drop aren't quite high enough and sows can jump up and nose the bottom of the drop. Vertical gate bars probably would have eliminated this problem as the ceiling isn't high enough to raise the feed system to keep it out of reach.
Other than satisfying the animal do gooders it hasn't helped the quality of life for my sows. One photo is when we were in the process of transitioning. Funny how they are accoustomed to order.
