Cornhead grease in implement wheel hubs ?

My thought is old, dried up grease is like clay. Until bearing gets hot., then it melts, helps. Mags said at least some damage already done.
I pop off hub cap. Take knife hook out some grease. Put a few tablespoons 80-90, 120 gear lube. *ok once I used 10/40 engine oil as what I had with hot disc bearing* I went to auction, bought it. Drove 10 miles, it felt warm. Removed dry grease, added 10-40. Checked couple more times on 50 mile trip. Cool, no issues. Oil/grease compatible issues. I honestly never even considered.
Hyd pumps yes I think a concern. Engine oil yes. But wheel bearings? WD -40 better than nothing. Ok bad example. ;)
