SE Indiana | We never made the conversion to gestation stalls. But what we use is bedded pens and self feeders. We allocate an amount of feed for the group for a curtain time. When it is gone they must utilize the forage value of the bedding until time to provide feed arrives. The amount or time varies according to weather, condition of the sow and stage of gestation. We use large round bales for bedding, straw, or cornstalks depending on availability. This year we are using cover crop Curial rye that got away from us because of the wet spring we had here. We have a 150 sow farrow to finish hog operation. | |
