S Illinois
Heavy and light refers to the flowability and density. Think more like gear oil/corn head grease vs 0W20. Yield of the light fuels(gasoline/diesel) is similar in both. It just takes more energy/steps to crack the respective oils into the separate constituents with heavy oil. Heavy oil will yield more asphalt and tar like materials though. The real heavy fuels like ocean going ship fuel maybe increased with heavy oil. All things being equal light sweet is still preferable but heavy works well when priced at a discount per barrel and the refinery is set up for it.

Edit: I am not saying light crude flows like 0w20. Just making the comparison as to density between light and heavy crude.
