I still don't understand how NH3 is OK and UAN is not.

From AI:

Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN) is made by blending heated solutions of urea, ammonium nitrate, and water, providing nitrogen in multiple forms (nitrateammoniumurea) for plants. Manufacturers often use recycled byproducts like ammonia and carbon dioxide from other fertilizer processes, reacting them to form the components before mixing to create a clear, liquid fertilizer with 28-32% nitrogen content, with corrosion inhibitors added for storage.

Is it not easy to see why some of us outsiders go "huh?" when hearing about what's & what isn't re. organic.

I guess that except for bagged fertilizer & lindane on the corn seed, we were organic when I was a kid.

UAN, Urea, and Anhydrous ammonia are all NOT allowed. Using manure from animals who were fed corn that was fertilized by any of the aforementioned commercial N sources IS allowed though.
