Sales tax goes to home state. If sales tax is paid out of state make sure have receipt as mentioned above. Might want to make sure the correct percentage of sales tax is charged for your state as sales tax precentage changes in different states if paid out of state.

If possible have title sent to you before you get truck. You can register. title it and have plates when you get it. That is what I did this last trip.

I have driven back from Calif rust free vehicle with no plates. Did get pulled over once just explained and showed title , bill of sale and my insurance gives 14 days coverage to move vehicle once purchased. In any case I send VIN in and get insurance. I have also driven back leaving plates on.

Drive with someone elses plates against law, drive without plates against law. Get temporary in state Calif had to register vehicle and temporary paper plate for out of state back years ago was good for 24 hours. Screwed on all fronts.
