Subject: RE: Delta crop budgets

I saw that in 2021. Chemical and fertilizer and rent took the lions share of the profit. And just forget about equipment prices.

I talked to a guy the other day that helps manage a 7000 acre farming operation. He said they yielded 78 bushels beans and 245 bushel corn and they had enough to pay their notes and everything but they didn’t really make any money at all. You’d think making 80 and 250 you should be swimming in cash but he said “it’s hard to yield your way out of this one”. But then we both agreed that going to town and getting a job as a John Deere sales man is the end of the world to most farmers. He followed up with “being a farmer is freedom”. Lots of people out there willing to do whatever it takes for freedom. And it’s different when you don’t have any other option

My dads got a couple of renters and they were all hollerin this year and my dad parted ways with one of them but another immediately stepped up in his place. His rents have come down but it’s still averaging over 250 an acre. I’d also add that after he let that one go, all the others showed up a day early with their rent checks.

Idk one of these years it’ll turn around it always does. But I doubt it’s this coming year. And the following year ain’t looking good either.
