West Central Iowa | I am heading to Mesa in a few weeks with a 5th wheel RV and will be towing a trailer with a UTV. Last year, on the way down, I hit a very rough road in either Oklahoma or Texas and I want to make sure I avoid it this year, but I am not sure what road and where it was at. But I am pretty sure it was somewhere after leaving Oklahoma City. And due to the 5th wheel and trailer, I do not want to take the shorter way through the mountains around Payson, AZ.
Our planned route from Western Iowa is as follows.
I-80 to York, NE
Hwy 81 south
I-70 west
Hwy 56 to Kinsley, KS
At Kinsley drop down to Hwy 54
Stay on 54 through KS, OK, and TX to Tucumcarie, NM
I-40 to Santa Rosa
54/70 to Las Cruces, NM
From Las Cruces to Mesa on I-10
I also found a reference on here from 2 years ago where 54 was really rough in the Oklahoma panhandle, is it still so rough? Any input on road conditions I could expect would be greatly appreciated.
