NW Washington | The Boeing factory tour is in their main plant in Everett WA—North of Seattle. You will need a reservation to do the tour. The Museum of Flight in Seattle is one of the best museums for aviation and aircraft. Paul Allen's private collection of WWII aircraft and weapons is in Everett near the Boeing plant. I-5 from Everett to Olympia is a busy interstate highway which should be avoided at times when locals are going to and from work. Visit Pike Place Market in Seattle and take the ferry across the sound as a foot passenger. Get tickets in advance it you want to go to the top of the Space Needle. Parking in Seattle is costly.
I agree, US 101 in Washington is pretty dull, forests for miles and miles. Things get better in the SW corner of the state, and then you cross over the Columbia River and enter Oregon, and the scenery improves. But it is a narrow two-lane road with lots of turns and curves, so it is slow going.
