Subject: Which type of feeder panel? Slanted or horizontal bar?

Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251
I am needing to build or buy 15 gates that also will serve as feeder panels. They will be ten feet wide and sheeted on the bottom. The rest of the front of each pen will have a wooden garvo style bottom bunk board with a guardrail neck rail.

The pictures kinda show my two choices. A slanted top to put their head through to eat off the concrete floor, or a gate frame with a horizontal pipe bar to let them do the same thing. Either way, they will be hinged on one side, and latched securely on the other as a gate. The gate will be used to move them in and out of the pen. I think I could buy some panels and cut out one of the horizontal bars to make it work.

Which is better and why?

What size and gauge metal should be used for the gates if we build them?
