Subject: RE: Can we agree on a definition of mining the soil?

Land owner asked me last March if I wanted to rent his farm at a given rate. I agreed.

The existing tenant grumbled that he had “left a lot of fertilizer” there.

What no one knew is I was pulling soil samples on mine and I had the crop scout pull samples on the new farm after they completed harvest. I printed a copy of the soil sample report for the land owner and handed it to him. “This doesn’t look good” was his response. Those results are between the landlord and I, the landlord has already seen what I applied this fall. He isn’t concerned. I will not agree to a rental rate behind a particular farmer again unless I have fresh soil samples in hand.
