Subject: RE: gas prices

Ross County, Ohio

I just returned from a holiday trip from Wisconsin. From Cumberland, Wisconsin to Greenfield, Ohio I was amazed at the range of prices. I try to plan my fuel stops on that trip, especially to avoid fuel prices around Chicago and never stop at the oasis on 90.The oasis are always roughly 40 cents higher than anywhere else. Usually the prices in a given state are within a few cents of each other. This time they were all over the board. I seen prices as low 2.17 and as high as 2.65 within a few miles of each other. Just before my last planned fuel stop I seen a station off of 70 that was 2.25, so I stopped there. Across the freeway was another station that had 2.45. It was that way the entire trip. Usually, you might see a 10 cent difference at most from competing stations.  I know stations can charge whatever they want, but normally stay within a few cents of each other. That wasn't the case this trip. I couldn't make sense of it.
