I appreciate much of what you post
It keeps with science, data, measurement, etc.

What it seems in the discussion of changing fertility is that folks are wanting to reduce expenses
I don't blame them, I would like to as well
However, I am conditioned by what I have studied and applied in this life, but willing to still try and learn

much of the soil health and alternative fertility discussion is quite interesting, but I have never seen a database of study behind it.
'this much in, this much out' , how to correct low readings, etc.
When I have brought this up with some others, I was criticized for my belief in reductionist science

FWIW, size, scale and location matter. Complex crop (and livestock) rotations were used widely in the midwest until the 70's. Then economics took over and rotations became smaller, livestock concentrated (or disappeared) and we evolved to where we are today. Not sure I could afford to go backwards to a 5 crop rotation and a 50 cow herd (that I grew up with)

I noted above the concerns about mining from my Extension experience, but this thread may be too old to have had them for comment
