We do 1st cut grass all the way to 3rd cut alfalfa and oats and all smell really good. We go on the dry side and are quite comfortable with low 20’s for moisture, it’s a lot easier on equipment, handling less water but you’ve got to use enough plastic, I’m guessing yours was done on the wetter side and maybe not enough plastic if it smells raunchy.
