Washington county Kansas
Im surprised by the definitions many people have come up with. My definition of mining the soil would be "leaving the soil less productive than when you started farming it."

Looking for example at phosphorus. In Kansas just the top foot of soil has 500 to 4000 pounds of phosphorus. I don't think replacing the 63 pounds of phosphate that a 180 bushel corn crop removes is really the biggest piece of the puzzle.

I feel like our soil has dramatically improved since we started farming in the early 80's. But the more things I think i understand about improving the soil, the more I realize how little I really know
