Can we agree on a definition of mining the soil?

1. Mining the soil means not replacing the nutrients removed - the simplest definition and the way that I think most would define it.
2. Crop removal math.
3. Total nutrients in the soil profile that can reasonably be reached by any one crop, whether available or not.
4. The soil is being mined if nutrients replaced are less than the nutrients removed regardless of whether or not soil test levels remain stable.
5. The soil is being mined if nutrients replaced are less than the nutrients removed regardless of contribution of parent material. Parent material is included in the total pool by my definition.

Now if you're talking only the available nutrient pool then obviously increasing biological activity and breaking down parent material comes into play, but I don't see that as being honest with regard to mining the soil.
