Malta, Illinois | I think the weight loss drugs are quite intriguing. I know a handful of people who have gone that route and they seem to have gotten along well. Long term the jury is still out as to side effects and other things. Many doctors contend that the drug works but you will have to stay on it for life because as soon as you quit taking the drug you will put the weight back on. It seems to me that if incorporated with a true change in lifestyle, the drug could be used successfully for a couple of years and then discontinued if the patient has adopted a lifestyle of healthy diet and exercise. If someone quits taking the drug and goes back to eating cheeseburgers, pizza, and other crap, they are obviously going to put the weight back on. Just like any other diet. I would sure think that for a person who has struggled their whole life with weight and has other issues caused by the obesity, a weight loss drug would be a life changer. I would also think that insurance companies would be happy to pay for it since it should reduce other medical issues. | |
