| As I read your question you are wondering about the ACCURACY of palpation for pregnenacy dertermination at this stage. Good vet can be accurate down to 42 days, some even a little less, the bigger problem for you will be the ones bred around a 100-120 days or longer when the fetus drops forward and down and can no longer palpated and then it becomes a judgement call based on the size of the blood vessels supplying the embryo or uterus to determing pregnant or open. I have seen situations where the farmer should have flipped a coin and been more accurate then the vet. Most vets can get this right when you have a breeding date think as in AI, but natural service and from August 20th to February is whole different ball game and many vets will flat out fail. Someone else here can weigh in on the possiblities of Ultrasound, I am not sure how qccurate it is at 4-5 months. Blood test is another possiblity, but is kind of a hassle pulling it if you are not used to doing it, I used to be pretty good when I milked cows 22 years ago, but really struggled the last time or 2 I tried to pull one 3-5 years ago, have not tried it since, part of the issue might have been I got the blood draw stuff from a small animal vet and I think the needles were too small. | |
