Should be Maria Machado

+1

I believe that if they had allowed fair elections, she would have already been the president. Having said that, since she was not allowed on the ballot, Edmundo González Urrutia was put on instead. When he won in 2024, Maduro (the guy who was just captured) refused to recognize him. It appears that Maria Machado is now suggesting that Edmundo González Urrutia is the real president and should assume his duties as such. Here is part of her statement translated from Spanish to English:

"This is the time for the citizens. Those of us who risked everything for democracy on July 28th. Those of us who elected Edmundo González Urrutia as the legitimate President of Venezuela, who must immediately assume his constitutional mandate and be recognized as Commander-in-Chief of the National Armed Forces by all the officers and soldiers who comprise it.
Today we are prepared to assert our mandate and take power. Let us remain vigilant, active, and organized until the Democratic Transition is realized. A transition that needs ALL of us."

For those who do not know or who have forgotten, Maria Machado won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025.
