Subject: Can we agree on a definition of mining the soil?

ecmn
The term gets thrown around here all the time. People will use it as an insult/ judgement.
if we're going to use the term can we at least come together and define it? Because right now there's a lot of back and forth. You're mining your soil.
No, I'm not.
Yes, you are.... And then nothing productive comes from it

So how do you define mining your soil?

How do you measure mining your soil? With a simple soil test? Or are you bringing in more of a geological test?

Is there a difference between depleting the available pool and the geological pool?

If a person is maintaining we can use P1 Bray as an example. If a person is maintaining that number regardless of how they're farming, are they actually mining the soil?

What if that same P1 Bray is low but maintained over decades. Did the farmer actually mine anything?

What about the parent material of the soil?
What if you're one of them guys that lives in an area where the potassium on their soil test doesn't really move whether they apply a lot or a little fertilizer, are they mining their soil?

Thanks
