East of Broken Bow
We use the protein/mineral tubs when the cattle are grazing cornstalks. I know a lot of people say you can do better for less money, but we really haven't found what works better for less in our scenario. Cows get all the energy they need from the ears off the field, they get all the 'bulk' they need from the stalks, all they need is mineral and a protein boost. Get the right tubs, and it's close to as economical as anything else, and doesn't require a bunch of mixing and calculating. Spent less than $2 a head on the tubs from the time the cows came in on pasture to January 1st.
I will note though, that we do NOT get 'energy' tubs, they are mostly for the vitimins/minerals, and a bit for the protein. Corn, we have, if we want more energy.
