Curious what the big picture is. If I had to guess it has a lot to do with the drug running, and (hopefully) getting away from the communism that destroyed their economy. In the '80s Venezuela had one of the highest standards of living in Central America, if not the highest standard of living. After 20-30 years of communist rule, practically the whole country was swirling the drain.
