East of Broken Bow
My brother had been diagnosed with Lyme several years ago, he thought he would never recover. Finally, after years, he found a Dr that did a blood test for parasites. Turns out some of the ticks that carry Lyme also are carriers for microscopic parasites, and the parasite infection mimics a lot of the symptoms of Lyme. They are unsure if the parasites were in the same tick that gave him Lyme, another tick bite, or if he had the parasites for a while, and the Lyme weakened him enough that the parasites had a chance to multiply to the point they were making him sick. The first Drs didn't think he had a parasite because he really wasn't losing weight, but that is often not the case. I'll link to that below. One thing my brother said was he would start breathing heavy just doing light work, and could never figure out why.
Took a couple doses of ivermectin a week or two apart, and felt better in 2 weeks than he had for 2 years. For those who want to know, the ivermectin was Dr prescribed.

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/24809-babesiosis

Babesiosis is a disease you get from the bite of a tick infected with the parasite Babesia. It causes flu-like symptoms and can lead to severe illness. You’re at higher risk for life-threatening illness if you have a weakened immune system or don’t have a functioning spleen. Combinations of antiparasitics and antibiotics treat babesiosis.

What are the symptoms of babesiosis?
Symptoms of babesiosis start one to four weeks after exposure. They include:

High fever.
Tiredness (fatigue).
Chills.
Sweating.
Headache.
Muscle or joint aches.
Loss of appetite.
Cough.
About 1 in 4 people have no symptoms of babesiosis. Unlike other tick-borne diseases, it usually doesn’t cause a rash.

Symptoms of severe babesiosis
Severe babesiosis may cause additional symptoms, including:

Yellowish skin or eyes (jaundice).
Pale skin (pallor).
Dark pee (urine).
Shortness of breath (dyspnea).
Nausea and vomiting.
Abdominal pain.
Neck stiffness.
Sudden mood changes or extreme emotional reactions (emotional lability or PBA).
Can babesiosis cause weight loss?
Weight loss isn’t a common sign of babesiosis. But if you don’t feel like eating or are feeling sick to your stomach and vomiting, you might lose weight.
