There is a way to measure the actual surface area of your hill, but it ain't easy and involves things like calculus. For land measurement, the field is considered flat.

The old joke about the reason farmers got such high wheat yields on the Palouse Hills in the Pacific NW is that they were farming three sides of an acre.
