southern MN | Bowl games were a festive deal, and brought visitors to the cities that hold them, tourist revenue.
So more and more bowl games sprung up.
Until the market was saturated. And everyone rung out as much money as they could from the festival.
Then the opt outs started as players protect themselves for the big money.
And there are more bowls than there are winning teams left to play.
So do you cancel your bowl, or invite a lower team to try to keep the money, er I mean the festivities rolling? And hope for better next year?
I think a combination of too many bowl games and the opt out situation has diminished the bowl game franchise from what it used to be.
Likely have to adapt to work out something better as they move forward.
