Subject: Our Basic Approach

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Our monitoring system is pretty bare bones but suits our purposes.

My Great Nephew installed a common surveillance camera in the dryer shack which points at the dryer display. It has no connection to the dryer system at all. The camera is hard wired to a Wi-Fi extender which communicates with the Router in the house. The picture then gets up to the Internet to a special website and can be observed on a smartphone/tablet as desired.

I also make a light bar indicator system for our two wet holding bins out of combine bin switches. They show the height in each bin on an outside display. A small display also shows the bin levels and is mounted close to the dryer display. This means the camera shows both the dryer status and the wet bin levels. The displays can be observed directly when near the system.

We have no yearly fees other than the Internet website that hosts the videos. I use a system with an old phone or tablet at my home and an App called Alfred. I guess we could have used that approach to get pictures from the dryer shack to the Internet.

The dryer display flashes when there is a problem so it is very easy to tell if a problem has occurred. However it does not send an alarm to wake us like a more sophisticated system might.
